York9 FC Signs Canadian Midfielder Jordan Wilson

Toronto, ON (October 22, 2020) – York9 FC is thrilled to announce the signing of Canadian midfielder Jordan Wilson. The 28-year-old has agreed to a contract through 2021, with further options for 2022 and 2023.

Wilson, a native of Mississauga, and who can operate in a number of midfield roles, returns home after five years with Nykøbing FC of Denmark’s First Division, with whom he racked up just shy of 150 appearances. A huge fan favourite during his time there, Wilson was managed by former Danish international Claus Jensen. A Premier League cult hero owing to his time with Charlton Athletic in particular, Jensen offered these warm words for his former player.

“Jordan has been incredibly important for us,” he said.

“Off the field, he has been such a positive presence – both internally, but also towards fans, sponsors and the club’s many youth players. With his great winning mentality, he has helped develop the young players on the team, and been a ‘culture carrier’, which we have been extremely lucky and happy to have in the club. Jordan will always be welcome at Nykøbing FC and I wish him the absolute best in the future.”

York9’s Managing Consultant, Angus McNab, echoes that sentiment, pointing to a litany of Wilson’s characteristics as the reason behind the deal.

“Jordan is an exciting addition to the group,” McNab says.

“He has spent his professional career overseas but is so energized and passionate to come home and contribute to the growth of the Canadian Premier League. We had a couple of great conversations and it became clear he bought into what we want to do here and was a good fit for us. He has the versatility to play as a 6 or 8 and even at centre back. That’s important as we look at finding the right team chemistry and driving this club forward. Most impressive was his desire to give back and play a huge part in our work in the local community. He believes in the promise of Canadian Premier League soccer and the positive impact it can have across the country in growing the sport.”

Wilson is enthused to be back in Canada and raring to go for the 2021 campaign.

“I come from the best country in the world,” he says.

“This country and the people in it have shaped me to be who I am. I’m excited to be back home and play the sport I love in front of the people I love. One of my goals is to bring a winning culture to York9. Not just how we play but how we train as well. I want to win, but the difference between good and excellent is in the details.”
