York9 Unveils Full Island Games Roster
23 is the magic number for York9 FC.
The club has finalised their squad ahead of The Island Games tournament in Prince Edward Island, which gets underway on Thursday.
The group features recent acquisitions Alvaro Rivero, Jace Kotsopoulos and Lowell Wright.
“I’m delighted with the squad we have assembled to represent the club and our fans at the 2020 Island Games,” says managing consultant Angus McNab.
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, McNab admits that fine-tuning the roster has been a challenge with international signings Brian Lopez and Nicholas Hamilton unavailable for PEI. But he’s procured some exciting talent and is enthused by the possibilities ahead.
“Brian Lopez and Nicholas Hamilton remain with the club and we are looking at loan moves for both”, McNab says.
“When we have news here, our fans will be the first to know about it. Also, I want to be transparent with fans and acknowledge that both players are being counted against our 2020 salary cap.”
McNab is especially proud of the youthfulness within the camp and how the club is at the forefront of the development of young local talent.
“With great challenge has come great opportunity for our squad,” he says.
“We have six players under the age of 20 on our roster who are all local guys. That is fantastic for the future of our club. The average age of the group in PEI is slightly under 23 – we see a great future for many in this group and are proud of the fact so many players are starting their professional journey with us.”
