It was a banner day for Rodrigo Gattas and York9 FC on Saturday.
The Chilean forward scored the first hat trick in Canadian Premier League history, putting three of Y9’s six goals on the day past HFX Wanderers goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams in a 6-2 win at York Lions Stadium.
The four-goal margin is also the largest in CPL history – with six the most one team has scored in a single match.
Gattas joined the party shortly after York9’s first marker, scoring his side’s second with a well-taken half volley from around the penalty spot.
Gattas added to his total 10 minutes later, picking out the far corner from well outside the penalty area with an incredible left-footed strike to make it 3-0. Gattas’ hat-trick marker came on the edge of halftime as he beat Williams again, this time by heading in a good cross from Manny Aparicio.
